Attending a High Holy Day service several years ago, I noticed the beautiful hand carved ark that houses the Torah. On the outside was depicted the tablets of stone commemorating Moses’ descent from Mt. Sinai. I began thinking about how this Covenant with God could be rendered in glass. I started sketching my idea in the synagogue. I then decided to place the tablets over a rainbow, a symbol of yet another Covenant with God. The ability to view the color of the rainbow through the Hebrew letters provides a symbolic melding of the two Covenants.
